WinCDEmu is an optical disc (CD, DVD, and Blu-Ray disc) emulator for Windows-run computers. Users are able to mount disK images and view their contents from a virtual drive. When the program is not in use, it will not take up space in any of the system’s drive letters. When it is being utilized, the program enables the user to open a disK image in a manner similar to accessing a physical drive. This feature is enabled through the software, as it installs a driver for Windows that allows it to emulate the disK image.
Users can mount the following disK images: ISO, CUE, BIN, NRG, IMG, MDS, MDF and CCD. ISO is the archive for optical discs, while CUE/BIN is a file that contains the metadata of an optical disc. Metadata for optical discs generally contain information about layout of the tracks contained within the disc.
NRG is the default format of Nero Burning ROM for its image files, while CCD contains the text file description for a disk image. This file extension is utilized by CloneCD, a disc authoring program. MDF and MDS also contain metadata for an optical disc.
