What is OpenOffice.org Base?
The OpenOffice Base application is part of the OpenOffice suite of productivity software and is meant to fill the analogue of Microsoft Office Access and Corel’s Paradox programs. The OpenOffice Base software is a database creation and management engine (thus the name). Base, in essence, acts as a GUI for external databases such as MySQL, PostgreSQL and Oracle; as a frontend for these databases, the OpenOffice Base affords the user a view of the SQL tables and queries.
