What are CFG files and how to open them

What is a CFG file?

CFG files have multiple uses, and Configuration is one of them. Read more about the other uses further down the page.

Configuration File

Configuration files are used by a wide range of programs and applications. The information within some CFG files contains a program's initial configuration and settings.

Some files with the .cfg file extension are also created when you change the settings of a particular program or computer application. For example, if you change the interface settings of a specific application, the application will create a new CFG file to accommodate those settings.

Files with the .cfg file extension are usually written in plain text, although others may be stored in a different format depending on the application they were created with.
