Opening PPT files

Did your computer fail to open a PPT file? We explain what PPT files are and recommend software that we know can open or convert your PPT files.

What is a PPT file?

The .ppt file extension is most commonly used by Microsoft PowerPoint and is given to files that have been created within that application. PowerPoint is a presentation design software distributed by Microsoft. It allows users to create slide shows that may consist of images, text, video and audio.

While PowerPoint is commonly used to create business presentations, many individuals also use the software to create slide shows that contain personal photographs, songs and messages. These PPT files are often shared by email.

The .ppt extension is created by versions of PowerPoint that were developed prior to the 2007 edition of the software. Later versions of PowerPoint use the .pptx extension rather than the .ppt extension used by earlier editions of the software.

Try a universal file viewer

In addition to the products listed above, I would suggest that you try a universal file viewer like Free File Viewer. It can open over 200 different types of files - and very likely yours too! Download Free File Viewer.
