What is Stuffit Expander?
Stuffit Expander is a software product from Smith Micro Software that allows users to open file archives in the Stuffit X and ZIP formats. There are two versions of the software; one for Windows computers and one for Mac machines.
On Windows computers, the software allows the user to extract files by right-clicking on the specific file, directly from the Windows Explorer interface. It can open Stuffit X and ZIP archives, plus SIT5, RAR and ZIPX archives.
On Mac machines, it can open several archive formats on top of Stuffit X and ZIP, including encrypted ZIP folders. Other formats include RAR folders, TAR and 7ZIP archives. The Mac version is able to open more archives as compared to its Windows counterpart.
Stuffit Expander is provided to the public as a free computer program. It may be downloaded as a standalone product, or it may also come bundled with Stuffit and Stuffit Deluxe. The Windows version is compatible with Microsoft .NET Framework 4.0, Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7 and Windows 8. The Mac version is compatible with Mac OS X 10.5 and up.
