TGZ File
What are TGZ files and how to open them
Are you having problems opening a TGZ file or are you simply curious about its contents? We're here to explain the properties of these files and provide you with software that can open or handle your TGZ files.
What is a TGZ file?
A .TGZ file is a GZipped TAR file.
Files that contain the .tgz file extension are TAR archive files that have been compressed using the Gnu Zip file compression software. When a user has a large volume of files that they want to compile into a single file archive, they can do so using the TAR file archive format.
However, the TAR format does not compress the files in its file archive. To compress a TAR file, the user must also use a file compression utility. When a user uses the Gnu Zip file compression software to do this, the compressed TAR file is saved with the .tgz file extension. This reduces the archive file's size, thereby saving disk space and making it easier to distribute or download.
