Did your computer fail to open an ENC file? We explain what they are used for and recommend software that we know can open or otherwise handle your .ENC files.
What is an ENC file?
An .ENC file is an UUEncoded file. Files that contain the .enc file extension most commonly hold uuencoded Unix files. The word "uuencoded" is derived from the Unix-to-Unix encoding process.
The Uuencode program takes the application's binary files and converts them into a text-based file format. These files are commonly used to email documents and prevent the documents from being corrupted during file transfer.
The file must be unencoded before the recipient can open the original file on their hard drive. ENC encoded files can be unencoded by a range of software utilities, also on e.g., Windows PCs.
