Opening ENC files

Did your computer fail to open an ENC file? We explain what ENC files are and recommend software that we know can open or convert your ENC files.

What is an ENC file?

Files that contain the .enc file extension are UUencoded files. When a file is encrypted using UUencoding technology, the file is assigned the .enc file extension. UUencoding is a binary-to-text encoding method. CopySafe protected PDF files are saved in the ENC file format.

The ENC file format is also used by Yahoo! Messenger as a part of the installation setup. ENC files can be opened on Windows, Mac and Linux operating systems.

The .enc file extension is also used by the BlackIce Firewall application. These ENC files are used to store evidence logs that have been created by the software application.
