What is a TAZ file?
A .TAZ file is a Compressed TAR file.
A .taz file is a TAR archive file that has been compressed with the Unix "compress" command to reduce its size. .TAZ and .TAR.Z is used interchangeably.
TAR is used first to bundle multiple files into one single file that is easy to distribute, and "compress" is used afterward to reduce the size.
