Opening LZMA files

Did your computer fail to open a LZMA file? We explain what LZMA files are and recommend software that we know can open or convert your LZMA files.

What is a LZMA file?

The .lzma (Lempel-Ziv-Markov chain-Algorithm) file extension is an archive/ compressed file that is mainly linked with Unix-based operating systems. LZMA files are similar to other compression algorithms like ZIP that compress data to save disk space, but LZMA compression is known to provide faster decompression times compared to other algorithms like BZIP2.

The files with .lzma file extension is a container file format that used to store various system data and scripts. LZMA format is best used in compression with below 256 mb archive. File archives above 256 mb should use.lzma2 file format

7-Zip, PeaZip, jZip, and Cam UnZip are the few of the compress/ decompress applications that can be utilized to manage .lzma files. You can also convert an LZMA file to GZ, ZIP, TAR, TGZ, and some other archive formats using FileZigZag. File Zigzag is a free online file converter regarded when it comes to zipped files and documents. Upload the file to be converted in FileZigZag and choose the file format and file destination.
