What is OpenOffice.org Calc?
The OpenOffice Calc is the spreadsheet application of the OpenOffice productivity suite, and is analogous to Microsoft Office’s Excel and the Lotus 1-2-3, the first of its kind; the OpenOffice Calc has comparable features and capabilities. Its default file format is the .ods (Open Document Format Spreadsheet), but it can also support other spreadsheet file formats, like .xls, .xlsx, .csv, HTML, among others, and can directly create a PDF file from a spreadsheet.
Oracle’s OpenOffice.org is the leading alternative office productivity suite of software, fully open-source and free for any purpose – personal or commercial – and for any type of enterprise, small or large. OpenOffice.org is fully committed to the open-source standard and stores all your office documents in internationally recognized standard formats, making it easy for related open-source projects to access and write to it, as well as other commercially available and recognized formats, such as those from Microsoft Office. OpenOffice is, along with free online office software on the Internet, is one of the main competitors to the dominance of the Microsoft Office line and, because it is an open-source software, its fixes and updates are fast and targeted for consumers (since they are also made by consumers).
