AkelPad is a Windows Notepad substitute with the unusual trait of being extensible. There are myriad plug-ins that users can add to the program to truly differentiate it from Notepad, with the vast majority of them designed to facilitate scripting using the utility: for instance, plug-ins exist for code autocompletion as well as syntax highlighting, both of which benefit programmers.
The program does everything Notepad does, basically, but has added features to go on top of those. It allows users to alter the text display in a variety of ways, permitting color and font changes; it has multiple window view mode options built into it; and it can even set a user-specified image to serve as the background of its window.
AkelPad fully supports Unicode codepages, and multiple operating systems’ newline formats. Files can be previewed before being opened for editing and the program supports multiple windows. Users can also rely on it for document printing and can even request a preview of the document before printing it. Furthermore, the software is free to use and is available in at least 20 localizations, including English.
Our users primarily use AkelPad to open these file types:
File.org aims to be the go-to resource for file type- and related software information. We spend countless hours researching various file formats and software that can open, convert, create or otherwise work with those files.
If you have additional information about which types of files AkelPad can process, please do get in touch - we would love hearing from you.
