Opening ISS files

Did your computer fail to open an ISS file? We explain what ISS files are and recommend software that we know can open or convert your ISS files.

What is an ISS file?

Files that contain the .iss file extension are InstallShield silent response files. These files are used by the Windows InstallShield software application. Windows InstallShield is a program that helps users install software applications on their systems and also allows developers to use a seamless installation process for their software products.

The InstallShield software was originally developed in 1992 by Stirling Technologies. The ISS files that are used by the InstallShield program contain the settings for the associated program that is being installed and the files are used during process of the software installation. These files are normally saved in a text-based file format.

Try a universal file viewer

In addition to the products listed above, I would suggest that you try a universal file viewer like Free File Viewer. It can open over 200 different types of files - and very likely yours too! Download Free File Viewer.
