What is MPC-BE?
MPC-BE, better known as Media Player Classic – BE (Black Edition), is software that installs a media player on Windows-run computers. The player has a similar appearance to the old Windows Media Player (version 6.4). It was originally developed by Gabest. The software is written in the C and C ++ programming languages.
It functions as both an audio player and a video player. It is integrated with its own set of codecs to enable the user to play MPEG-2 files, OGM, Matroska, and optical disc media files. Specifically, playback support is provided for DVD, VCD and SVCD movies. It is also able to display subtitles, and provides support for linear pulse-code modulation (LPCM) audio files, as well as MP2, DTS, 3GP and AC3.
If the player detects a TV tuner installed on the system, it is also able to play TV programs. Further developments of the MPC-BE software was undertaken by a team of Russian developers. MPC-BE is provided as freeware under the GNU General Public License. It is available in several languages including Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, English, Dutch, French, Japanese, Italian, Russian, Swedish and Korean.
