What is MiraMon?

MiraMon is software that allows the user to view and edit raster and vector mapping images. Categorized as a Geographic Information System (GIS) program, as well as Remote Sensing tool, MiraMon generally enables users to view and edit digital terrain models, topography maps, orthophotos or orthoimages, and WMS (Web Map Service) layers.

The software was initially developed in 1988, but its implementation on Windows did not take place until 1994. The software is generally utilized for research and education. MiraMon is actually a suite of products, all for the GIS platform. Software programs provided by the developers include MiraMon Professional, MiraMon Mobile, MiraMon Map Reader, and MiraMon Map Browser.

MiraMon Professional is the desktop application that is utilized for displaying visuals of the maps, which includes 3D visuals of map perspectives. The software utilizes its own raster and vector formats, provides tools for accessing geodatabases, and allows the user to create queries based on location and attributes.

Analysis tools, metadata manager, GPS data retrievers, and remote sensing are likewise features of the MiraMon Professional edition of the software.
