How to open SID files

Did your computer fail to open a SID file? We explain what SID files are and recommend software that we know can open or convert your files.

What is a SID file?

Files that contain the .sid file extension are most commonly associated with game data back up files that have been created by an application called Steam. These files contain compressed game data that is used to back up games to DVD media or other external media sources. These back up files do not include the actual saved games, custom multi-player maps or configuration files.

The .sid file extension can also be used to save MrSID image files. These files are developed by Lizard Technologies for compressing large images. The SID image files are created using multi-resolution seamless image database technology. These files are commonly used to store Large Geographic Information System (GIS) image files.
