ImgBurn

If you are looking for ImgBurn, you have come to the right place. We explain what ImgBurn is and point you to the official download.

What is ImgBurn?

ImgBurn is a free program that allows the recording of data into recordable optical discs, or create image files of the data contained in such discs to be stored on your hard disk (which are then ready for instant burning to another disc). ImgBurn is developed by Lightning UK based from the DVD Decrypter software, which was later discontinued after encountering a cease and desist order from the courts as requested by Macrovision. Although it has the same optical disc authoring and image-creation capabilities of DVD Decrypter, ImgBurn is not able to bypass the security and protection of copy-protected DVDs, as DVD Decrypter is able to, in order to stay within legal safety. It can copy unencrypted DVDs, however, and for the purposes of defeating copy-protection on encrypted DVDs there are unsanctioned ImgBurn third-party add-ons.

ImgBurn has five “modes” or components that each describe the application’s core capabilities: Read (reading a disc to an image file), Build (create an image from a disc), Write (burn a disc image directly into a disc), Verify (to check if there are errors in the image, or if the image matches the data on the source disc), and Discovery, which is essentially a drive benchmarking tool.
