What is PowerDesigner?

PowerDesigner is a program that features a variety of tools that will enable the user to create structural and graphical representations of business models. The software was initially developed for Oracle databases by Xiao-Yun Wang. Soon after its release, the software was further developed to support major Relational Database Management Systems, otherwise known as RDBMS. Today, the software is licensed under Sybase.

PowerDesigner executes under Eclipse, a multi-language IDE software program, via a plugin. The program supports various modeling architectures such as Business Process Model and Notation or BPMN, RDBMS, data warehouse modeling, object modeling and XML modeling. In addition, the software also supports a system simulation program known as SIMUL8, which the client can use to include simulation effects to a BMP.

Moreover, PowerDesigner has the capability to analyze requirements, i.e. conditions that need to be met for a new product or service, or an improved version of it. Lastly, it also functions as a code compiler that is compatible with a number of programming languages such as Java, C Sharp, Visual and Basic. It also supports JavaServer Faces, PowerBuilder, which is Sybase’s IDE and the WinForm graphical API.
