Opening APM files

Did your computer fail to open an APM file? We explain what APM files are and recommend software that we know can open or convert your APM files.

What is an APM file?

Files that contain the .apm file extension are commonly associated with the Aldus Placeable Metafile format. These files are used to store vector and bitmap format data.

Files containing the .apm file suffix store commands that are played back on an output device using the API PlayMetaFile function that is used in the Windows operating environment.

The .apm file extension is also used for the Windows Application Manager. These APM files contain configuration files that are used by the Application Manager.

Metafile images that are created by a variety of Windows programs also contain the .apm file suffix. These files contain scale images along with metafile header information.

Try a universal file viewer

In addition to the products listed above, I would suggest that you try a universal file viewer like Free File Viewer. It can open over 200 different types of files - and very likely yours too! Download Free File Viewer.
