Opening MCD files

Did your computer fail to open a MCD file? We explain what MCD files are and recommend software that we know can open or convert your MCD files.

What is a MCD file?

The .mcd file extension is a 3D graphics and CAD file type that is directly associated with VectorWorks. VectorWorks is a CAD and building information modeling (BIM) software application, developed by Diehl Graphsoft, Inc.in mid 1980's. Diehl Graphsoft is now known as Nemetschek. VectorWorks is a global design software that is primarily used in architectural designs and landscape projections. VectorWorks is used in creating 2D, 3D, production management, and presentation designs.

MCD files represent saved drawings and 3D renderings that are created and saved by using VectorWorks. MCD files were used VectorWorks version 1 through 12. But now it uses the VWX extension in versions 2008 and later. Version 2008 was the successor of version 12.

MCD files can also be converted to other vector- based images and other formats like .mcl, .mcs, .pdf and .vwx. MCD files can be converted to VWX files using newer Vectorworks versions that came after the 2008 version. VWX and some MCD files can also be viewed in free Vectorworks Viewer programs.

Try a universal file viewer

In addition to the products listed above, I would suggest that you try a universal file viewer like Free File Viewer. It can open over 200 different types of files - and very likely yours too! Download Free File Viewer.
