Opening PAC files

Did your computer fail to open a PAC file? We explain what PAC files are and recommend software that we know can open or convert your PAC files.

What is a PAC file?

PAC stands for Proxy Auto Configuration. Files with the .pac extension are configuration files that are used by a variety of Web browsers. These files allow the browser to choose the proper proxy server. The PAC files contain JavaScript functions that define the rules used to choose a proxy server for a specific URL.

The .pac extension is also used for CrossePAC archive files, Opera files, Pacman files, Atari STAD image format files, Windows Applications Manager added or changed package files, Desperados game archive files and Photo-CD multi-resolution image files.

Try a universal file viewer

In addition to the products listed above, I would suggest that you try a universal file viewer like Free File Viewer. It can open over 200 different types of files - and very likely yours too! Download Free File Viewer.
