What are PACK files and how to open them
Are you having problems opening a PACK file or are you simply curious about its contents? We're here to explain the properties of these files and provide you with software that can open or handle your PACK files.
What is a PACK file?
PACK files have multiple uses, and Java Packed JAR is one of them. Read more about the other uses further down the page.
Java Packed JAR File
These files are used for the deployment of apps written in the Java programming language. They are saved in a compressed format and contain what is commonly referred to as compressed JAR files. JAR files are Java applications.
When you launch a Java app using Java WebStart, packed files may be transferred to your computer and unpacked. This makes the app appear to load faster and saves download bandwidth.
How to open PACK files
Important: Different programs may use files with the PACK file extension for different purposes, so unless you are sure which format your PACK file is, you may need to try a few different programs.
While we have not verified the apps ourselves yet, our users have suggested seven different PACK openers which you will find listed below.

While Java Packed JAR File is a popular type of PACK-file, we know of 2 different uses of the .PACK file extension. Different software may use files with the same extension for different types of data.
Git Packed Objects
We know that one PACK format is Git Packed Objects. We have not yet analyzed in detail what these files contain and what they are used for. We're working on it.
