What is a MANIFEST file?
MANIFEST files have multiple uses, and Windows Application Manifest is one of them. Read more about the other uses further down the page.
Windows Application Manifest
Windows Application manifests are used by developers to enable Windows features in their applications.
Among other things, by using a manifest, the developer can instruct Windows to enable user interface components with the newest modern look when running on a more recent version of Windows instead of the standard user interface component look.
A manifest can also force an application to always run with Administrator privileges.
These files are written in XML format, a structured text format that can be viewed with any text editor.
