What is a GP5 file?

GP5 files have multiple uses, and Guitar Pro v5 Tablature is one of them. Read more about the other uses further down the page.

Guitar Pro v5 Tablature

Files that contain the .gp5 file extension are files that have been created with the Guitar Pro 5 multi-track tablature editor software. This tablature editor allows users to create scores for guitars, bass, banjos, and other stringed musical instruments.

The Guitar Pro 5 application also allows a user to track the progress of a piece of music and can be used as a MIDI sequencer. The GP5 files store the scores that have been created with the Guitar Pro 5 software. However, these files do not contain any actual audio data.

GreenPAK Designer Project

We know that one GP5 format is GreenPAK Designer Project. We have not yet analyzed in detail what these files contain and what they are used for. We're working on it.
