What is TuxGuitar?
TuxGuitar is an open source and free software developed by Julian Gabriel Casadesus, Hernan Andres Casadesus and their team of software engineers. The software serves as a tablature (tab) editor, specifically for musical notation in guitar frets.
The software enables the user to write music, view and edit score, manage note duration and tempo, also implement effects on their compositions such as harmonics, grace notes, tremolo picking and slides; transpose notes, integrate multiple measures, and move the beats from left to right.
In addition, TuxGuitar allows import and export of Guitar Pro files (gp3, gp4 and gp5) and MIDI files. It also supports Power Tab and TableEdit file imports; as well as ASCII, MUSICXML and PDF file exports.
For music composition, the user can utilize the integrated guitar fret board or keyboard; and use the same when playing their compositions from the interface. The software also supports two voices per track, supports multiple tracks and custom number of tunings for a track’s strings, and supports time and key signatures, and clefs.
