What is a BSP file?
Files that contain the .bsp file extension are most commonly associated with the Quake gaming software.
BSP stands for Binary Space Partitioning. The BSP files that are used by the Quake software are map files that are used by the games developed with the software. These files contain information about the layout, objects, and map-level resources for the associated gaming application.
In addition to the Quake gaming applications the BSP file format is used by a variety of other gaming software products including Half-Life, Team Fortress, Counter-Strike and Call of Duty.
The Bioshock gaming software also uses the .bsp file suffix. These BSP files contain saved game files and project files created with the Bioshock application.
How to open BSP files
Important: Different programs may use files with the BSP file extension for different purposes, so unless you are sure which format your BSP file is, you may need to try a few different programs.
