What are BSOL files and how to open them

What is a BSOL file?

A .BSOL file is a Blaise Solution file.

Blaise Solution files store a survey solution used with the Blaise system, a software suite for designing and managing questionnaires and data collection. They act as top-level "solution" containers that reference one or more projects, combining the necessary project files, survey definitions, settings, and build sequences needed for a complete, deployable survey instrument in Blaise. Users producing solutions define multiple projects (often representing modules or parts of the survey), include standard code and layout includes, specify build order, and link metadata and translation artifacts before distributing or deploying the survey.

These files are created and used by the Blaise survey development environment (Control Centre / Solution Explorer). Developers author questionnaires using Blaise's model definition language, include auxiliary files for lookup tables or shared logic, edit settings such as multilingual text or modes of interviewing (CAPI, CATI, CAWI, etc.), and then use the solution file to package, version, and build the complete set. Once built, the solution drives generation of deployable artifacts and supports version control workflows of survey source.

Technical format identifiers: files begin with an XML header including version and encoding, followed by a root "Solution" element with a SolutionName attribute. The content contains keywords like PROJECTITEMS, BUILDSEQUENCE, SOLUTION NAME, entries referencing .BPROJ project files, and strings such as "STARTUPPROJECT RELATIVEPATH".

How to open BSOL files

Important: Different programs may use files with the BSOL file extension for different purposes, so unless you are sure which format your BSOL file is, you may need to try a few different programs.
