Opening WIN files

Did your computer fail to open a WIN file? We explain what WIN files are and recommend software that we know can open or convert your WIN files.

What is a WIN file?

Files that contain the .win file extension are most commonly used for Windows system backup files. These files contain backup copies of the Windows files on a user's computer.

If the original Windows files that are locate on a user's computer happen to become corrupt or are accidentally deleted, the WIN files can be used to restore the data on the user's system.

The Truevision Targa software has also been known to use the .win file suffix. These files contain bitmap image files that are used by the Truevision Targa application.

The ArchiCAD software also uses the .win file extension. These WIN files contain geometric description language files that are used by the ArchiCAD application.
