How to open RSRC files

Did your computer fail to open a RSRC file? We explain what RSRC files are and recommend software that we know can open or convert your files.

What is a RSRC file?

Files that contain the .rsrc file extension are most commonly associated with Macintosh resource files. The file format was initially created in 1978 for use with the pre-Macintosh Apple Lisa computers.

An RSRC file contains a library of information that is used by the Macintosh OS operating system. This file format made it possible for the Mac OS to separate graphics and text in a file through the use of data and resource forks.

RSRC files are also used in the Apple Xcode environment to develop programs for Mac OS versions 9 and earlier. RSRC files may also contain system themes for the Mac OS X interface.

RSRC file openers, viewers, etc.

These apps are known to open certain types of RSRC files. Remember, different programs may use RSRC files for different purposes, so you may need to try out a few of them to be able to open your specific file.
