What are RSS files and how to open them
Are you having problems opening a RSS file or just wondering what they contain? We explain what these files are used for and show you software that we know can open or otherwise handle your files.
What is a RSS file?
RSS files have multiple uses, and Rich Site Summary is one of them. Read more about the other uses further down the page.
Rich Site Summary File
These files are rich site summary files. They are XML files used by various websites to distribute information about new posts on the site.
The RSS files contain news headlines and a summary of articles and blog posts in a text format that RSS readers and some web browsers support. Using the RSS feed, you can mix news from several sites into a news feed, and based on that, select which articles and blog posts you want to read without having to go to each site and scan for news.
