What is a MTW file?

A .MTW file is a Minitab Worksheet file.

A Minitab Worksheet file is a data file used by the Minitab software to store a worksheet containing all the data and objects needed for statistical work. It is created when you save a worksheet in Minitab (before version 19 or in versions without tabbed output). The file holds columns of data (variables), any constants you have defined, matrices used in calculations, and design objects that are part of your experiment setup. You work with it when you want to save or share just the worksheet part of a project without including graphs, outputs or history.

Minitab writes this file whenever you use the Save Worksheet command or the equivalent "SAVE filename.MTW" command. Later you can open this file in Minitab by using Open Worksheet or the RETRIEVE command, and everything you saved - column names, data values, missing value indicators, constants, matrices - is restored exactly. If you convert the worksheet to a different format (for example Excel or text), any stored constants or matrices will not be included.

The file begins with the ASCII signature WORKSHEETSTOREDBYMINITAB at byte offset 0, which identifies it internally as Minitab's native worksheet format.
