What is TRADOS?

SDL Trados is a series of programs dedicated to facilitating translation services and projects. The software is available in several versions, with the premium version, SDL Trados Studio Professional, being one of the more well-known computer-assisted translation programs used by professional translators. The key feature of all versions of the program is the inclusion of translation memory, which is a function that allows the software to remember translations for equivalent content previously worked on by the translator. Thus, if the translator finds a phrase in a later document that he has already translated into a specific language in an earlier document, the program will recollect the earlier translation as a suggestion, aiding in swift project turnover.

All versions of the software are also able to work with up to 5 languages on a single document (although the premium version, Studio Professional, has no limit on this), can open an unlimited number of term bases, open SDL packages, make use of server-based TMs and projects, get real-time previews, use the QuickPlace feature, and access the RevleX TM (translation memory) engine. The cheapest version is the Studio Starter, with the middle option being the Studio Freelance.
