What is Inno Setup?
Inno Setup is a script-driven installation system created in Embarcadero Delphi by Jordan Russell. The first version was released in 1997. Key features include support for Windows 8, Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows 2000, Windows Server 2003, and Windows XP, including x64 editions. It has extensive support for installation of 64-bit applications on Windows XP, and Windows Server 2003. Both the x64 and IA-64 architectures are supported. Multiple platforms in a single binary include IA-32, x64, and IA-64. Prior versions support Windows NT 3.51 (before v.30) and Windows 3.X (before v1.3). It supports the creation of a single EXE to install programs for easy online distribution. It also supports disk spanning.
Customizable setup types, for example, include Full, Minimal, and Custom. It also has complete uninstall capabilities. It has integrated support for deflate, bzip2 and 7zip LZMA file compression. The installer has the ability to compare file version information, replace in-use files, use shared file counting, register DLL/OCXs and type libraries, and install fonts. It also allows creation of shortcuts, including the Smart Menu and on the desktop.
