What is an IST file?

InstallShield Template File

Files that contain the .ist file extension are project template files for use with the InstallShield software. The InstallShield application is commonly used to create .msi Windows Installers and installation packages for Windows programs.

The .ist files created by the InstallShield software contain a template that stores default settings, design elements, directory structures, custom scripts, code, images, and text. This allows the developer creating the installation package to create packages for multiple applications without starting the development of each installation application from scratch, saving the developer time.
