GBP File
What are GBP files and how to open them
Are you having problems opening a GBP file or are you simply curious about its contents? We're here to explain the properties of these files and provide you with software that can open or handle your GBP files.
What is a GBP file?
GBP files have multiple uses, and GBurner Project is one of them. Read more about the other uses further down the page.
GBurner Project
A GBurner Project file (.GBP) is a project data file used by the gBurner software when preparing a burning job (for example, burning a data disc, audio CD, or video DVD). It is created when a user saves a disc-burning project in gBurner; it stores settings about the project type, options, and a list of which files and folders the user plans to burn. It does not include the actual content files themselves - it only contains pointers or references to their locations on the disk.
When you open a .GBP file in gBurner, it restores the saved layout and configuration of your project so you can resume setup or start burning. You might see the same files listed and the same burn options selected (file system type, disc label, whether to finalize, etc.). Because the project file refers to external files rather than embedding them, moving or deleting those files may cause the project to fail to load correctly.
Inside a GBP file there is a binary header that begins with a signature "PRJ....l" (hex bytes starting with 0x50524A … "PRJ.............l") at offset zero. That signature helps gBurner recognize the file type.

All known file formats using extension .GBP
While GBurner Project is a popular type of GBP-file, we know of 2 different uses of the .GBP file extension. Different software may use files with the same extension for different types of data.
Gerber Bottom Solder Paste File
The Gerber Bottom Solder Paste File format (extension .GBP) stores data used during the printed circuit board (PCB) fabrication process to define which areas on the bottom side of the board should receive solder paste for attaching surface-mount components. It is an "paste mask" layer: when designing a PCB, the CAD tool or CAM output generates this layout so that a stencil can be produced to apply solder paste only where pads require solder on the bottom side of the board. Without this file, soldering of surface-mount parts on the underside would be inaccurate or impossible.
The .GBP file is produced by PCB design and CAD programs that support Gerber exports, such as Autodesk EAGLE, when preparing manufacturing data. It is not meant for editing by hand (though it can be viewed), but is sent to manufacturers' CAM systems to generate paste mask stencils. In the standard Gerber workflow it complements other layer files: copper, solder mask, silkscreen, and others. The file uses the Gerber (RS-274X or newer) vector image layer standard, either as part of legacy Gerber or the modern Gerber X2/X3 standard which may encode metadata identifying that this layer is the bottom paste mask.
Technical detail: the .GBP file is an ASCII-text Gerber file describing graphic primitives (apertures, flashes, draws) that outline the opening of solder paste areas. The specification refers to the layer function "Paste,(Bottom)" to identify that this image is the bottom-side solder paste mask layer.
