EGG File
What are EGG files and how to open them
Are you having problems opening an EGG file or are you simply curious about its contents? We're here to explain the properties of these files and provide you with software that can open or handle your EGG files.
What is an EGG file?
EGG files have multiple uses, and EGG Compressed Archive is one of them. Read more about the other uses further down the page.
EGG Compressed Archive File
The EGG Compressed Archive File is a proprietary archive format developed by ESTsoft Corp. in South Korea and used by their ALZip software. It bundles multiple files and folders into a single compressed package for storage or distribution. It offers extended features beyond older formats like ALZ, including support for Unicode filenames and modern encryption.
ALZip creates EGG archives from user-selected files, using various algorithms to compress each file. Solid compression is available and the archive can be split into volumes (named name.vol1.egg, name.vol2.egg, etc.) to make handling large data easier. When protected by a password, encryption via AES-128, AES-256, or LEA variants secures the archive; each file within typically carries a CRC checksum for integrity checks. Compatible tools like Bandizip also support reading and extracting EGG archives.
The archive starts with a fixed header signature: the bytes 0x45 0x47 0x47 0x41 (ASCII "EGGA") at offset zero, which distinguishes it from other formats.
