What are BP files and how to open them

What is a BP file?

A .BP file is a BP SoundMon 2 Module file.

"BP SoundMon 2 Module" files are music module files made with Brian Postma's SoundMon 2 editor for the Amiga. They store songs that use both sample-based instruments and built-in synthesis, arranged as tracker-style patterns. These files are intended for replay by Amiga music players that support SoundMon 2 format.

The editor that writes these files is SoundMon 2. A song in this format consists of pattern data (rows of notes and effect commands per channel), instruments that can be either digital samples or synthesized tones, and a song-order list that determines the sequence of patterns for playback. Synthesis parameters are stored directly in the module so that playback reproduces built-in sounds without external sample files.

Files of this kind are identified by specific byte signatures within their headers. For example, at byte offset 23 there is the ASCII string "V.2". Other consistent zero bytes at offsets 54, 62, 87, 94, 119 and 126 are part of this format's signature.

How to open BP files

Important: Different programs may use files with the BP file extension for different purposes, so unless you are sure which format your BP file is, you may need to try a few different programs.
