What is an APR file?

APR files have multiple uses, and Apadana Project is one of them. Read more about the other uses further down the page.

Apadana Project

.apr files are project files created using Apadana. Apadana is a developer software used by programmers. Programmers create programs in the Apadana workspace. When they work on a certain program, the saved .apr file is called the project file.

Apadana is available for independent programmers. The platform itself provides tutorials for beginner programmers.

How to open APR files

Important: Different programs may use files with the APR file extension for different purposes, so unless you are sure which format your APR file is, you may need to try a few different programs.

ArcView Project

.apr files are files created as ArcView projects. ArcView is a geographical information system (GIS) software used to capture spatial data for maps, GPS devices, and navigational systems. Projects that are saved for later use have the .apr extension.

ArcView is developed by Esri (Environmental Systems Research Institute), a company supplying GIS systems and GIS geodatabase management applications. It is based in Redlands, California.

Artemis Presents! Document

.apr files are document files made using the Artemis Presents application. Artemis Presents is a simple graphics editing and charting tool bundled with other applications developed by Lucas Management Systems. Lucas Management Systems is a company developing various project management software.

Artemis Presents can save and edit .apr files using older Microsoft Windows versions.

Lotus Approach

Files with the .APR extension created by Lotus Approach hold the view definitions for a database rather than the raw data. They store the layout and structure of user-designed interfaces such as forms, reports, table views, menus, joins between tables, calculated fields, styles and scripting. The actual data - records and field values - is kept in separate database files (often dBASE-format .DBF or other supported database back-ends).

In usage, IBM Lotus Approach builds an .APR file when a user designs or modifies how data is presented, how records are queried and joined, what reports show, and how input forms behave. This file directs how the database system displays and interacts with the data but does not include the database contents themselves. You typically open or edit an .APR inside Lotus Approach when designing forms and reports; changes take effect when opening the database along with that view file.

The .APR format is proprietary. Lotus Approach view files begin with the typical Compound File Byte-Order Mark header used by many Microsoft and Lotus binary formats: the first eight bytes are D0 CF 11 E0 A1 B1 1A E1. This signature helps programs identify the file correctly.vanje
