What are AFP files and how to open them

What is an AFP file?

An .AFP file is an ABC FlowCharter Shapes Palette file.

ABC FlowCharter Shapes Palette files are symbol-palette files used by ABC FlowCharter, a flowcharting and process-diagram program developed originally by Micrografx and later maintained under iGrafx. These files store collections of shapes and symbols than can be dragged into diagrams via the Shape Palette panel inside ABC FlowCharter. Users employ them to organize and reuse diagram components (e.g. flowchart symbols, icons or custom shapes) without recreating each every time.

The program that writes these files is ABC FlowCharter (also called Micrografx FlowCharter or iGrafx FlowCharter). These palette files are read by the same program when you open the Shape Palette in a project; the shapes contained in a palette file become available for placement into diagrams. These files typically accompany ABC FlowCharter installations or are custom palettes created by users to group their preferred shapes.

Files of this type begin with a byte signature at offset 0 consisting of the sequence 0x0018004A464F (ASCII for "…JFO").

How to open AFP files

Important: Different programs may use files with the AFP file extension for different purposes, so unless you are sure which format your AFP file is, you may need to try a few different programs.
