ADS File
What are ADS files and how to open them
Are you having problems opening an ADS file or are you simply curious about its contents? We're here to explain the properties of these files and provide you with software that can open or handle your ADS files.
What is an ADS file?
An .ADS file is a TunerPro DataStream Definition file.
TunerPro DataStream Definition files define how TunerPro RT (or older TunerPro versions) reads live data (datastreams) from a vehicle's engine control module. They describe the commands sent, response formats, communication settings (baud rate, packet size, etc.), and how to convert the incoming bytes into meaningful sensor values, alarms, display units, or dashboards. Without a correct .ADS file the software cannot correctly interpret or show the real-time ALDL (or other serial) data from the vehicle.
These files are written and maintained by users or by the TunerPro community. In older TunerPro versions (version 4, TPV4), .ADS files are used directly. In newer TunerPro versions (version 5, TPV5), .ADS files can be imported and converted into the newer ADX format to maintain compatibility. Once loaded, the .ADS (or its converted ADX) allows the user to trace data, link values with a corresponding XDF bin definition (if editing or tuning), visualize data in gauges or dashboards, and log in real-time.
The .ADS file begins with an ASCII header starting at offset 0 that includes a warning text about hand editing being not recommended, followed by sections marked "HEADER", "VALUES", "LOOKUP TABLES", "BITS", and "DASH". Internal field names include parameters such as INUMBYTESBEFOREPAYLOAD, ITOTALBYTESINCOMMAND, BALARMHIGHENABLE, STRUNITLABEL, DWITEMSIZEBITS, and others which define how to parse and label the incoming datastream data.
