The Symantec Encryption Desktop provides organizations with comprehensive and full disk encryption for all kinds of data on desktops, laptops, and removable media. This includes user files, swap files, system files, and hidden files. This full disk encryption software, protects data from unauthorized access, providing security for intellectual property, customer and partner data. Protected systems can also be centrally managed by the Symantec Encryption Management Server, simplifying deployment policy creation, distribution, and reporting. Supported operating systems include Microsoft Windows 8 Enterprise, Windows 8 Pro, and Windows 7. It also supports Windows Vista and Windows XP. Supported disks include desktop and laptop disks, external disks, which exclude music devices, and digital cameras.
Its features include a passphase and machine recovery. It is a local self-recovery, one-time use token, with other types of recovery options. It also has an optimized and strong encryption, with a built-in PGP Hybrid Cryptographic Optimizer technology. It is FIPS 140-2 validated, CAPS-approved, DIPCOG-approved, with a CC EAL 4+ certification. The Symantec Encryption Desktop also has background encryption with throttling capabilities.
