Retrospect

If you are looking for Retrospect, you have come to the right place. We explain what Retrospect is and point you to the official download.

What is Retrospect?

Retrospect is a backup and recovery utility originally developed and distributed by Dantz Development Corporation. Further developments and distribution of the software are now under the company, Retrospect, Inc. The initial release of the software was intended solely for Mac computers, but later releases now also included machines that run on Windows, Linux, Solaris and NetWare.

The software can be scheduled to run regular backups to create copies of documents, data and software that were newly installed on the system; and to keep previously backed up data updated, where changes have been made.

The program includes a feature called Instant Scan where multi-platform computers connected to a network (20 computers or less) can be simultaneously backed up by the software. It also includes an add-on known as Dissimilar Hardware Restore, where files and data systems can be completely restored to another computer, whether this is of the same hardware make or completely different. The software is able to adjust the drivers to the new hardware of dissimilar make.

The software also keeps old versions of the backed up files and data.
