PRIMER

If you are looking for PRIMER, you have come to the right place. We explain what PRIMER is and point you to the official download.

What is PRIMER?

PRIMER’s PRIMER-E application is designed as an analysis tool used to read ecological data, biodiversity, and other data from empirical measurements of environmental factors that do not require a parametric approach. Mainly a statistical utility, PRIMER is developed by PRIMER-E, which was spun off the Plymouth Marine Laboratory (PML), and whose Visual Basic 5 code spawned PRIMER.

The program can analyze multivariate data from such sources as chemical variables, genetic and microbial data, species assemblage, diet, taxonomic distinctness, and so on. PRIMER is also used for scientists who wish to analyze biodiversity and marine ecology (being written for PML originally), and as a utility to determine the effects of man-made catastrophes in the environment such as oil spills, mining, trawling, and aquaculture. These data can be imported from and exported to Excel spreadsheets, printed, or export to EMF, BMP, or Rich Text format (RTF) files.

PRIMER mainly outlines its results and the explanation on how such data are sampled through its Methods Manual, and attempts to present the results of its finding using as few mathematical terms as possible that some users may not understand.
