Opening WVE files

Did your computer fail to open a WVE file? We explain what WVE files are and recommend software that we know can open or convert your WVE files.

What is a WVE file?

The .wve file extension is used for a proprietary data file format that was developed by DivX, LLC. These WVE files are used by the DivX codec, which is a digital video encoder and decoder that was also created by DivX LLC for Windows platforms and Mac OS X machines. This video codec uses MPEG-4 encoding and decoding standards, which generate high quality digital videos in small file sizes.

Also known as DivX movie conversion component files, these WVE files contain code and resources that are used by the DivX codec to encode, decode and convert digital videos from other file formats to the DivX format and vice-versa. The DivX codec is usually bundled with the Windows and Mac OS X platforms, and also with certain multimedia tools and digital video playback applications for these operating systems.

These .wve files are not meant to be opened. It's best to leave these WVE files alone, in order for the DivX codec and other associated multimedia programs to continue running properly.

Try a universal file viewer

In addition to the products listed above, I would suggest that you try a universal file viewer like Free File Viewer. It can open over 200 different types of files - and very likely yours too! Download Free File Viewer.
