What is a TSP file?

A .TSP file is a Caligari TrueSpace Project file.

Caligari trueSpace Project (.TSP) files store entire 3D projects created in the trueSpace application by Caligari Corporation. These include all the components that make up a project scene - geometry (objects and meshes), textures, materials, lighting, camera positions, hierarchy/grouping of objects, and project settings. They serve as the container file that keeps everything needed to resume work on a full 3D project.

trueSpace writes .TSP files: when you save your project in trueSpace, your current workspace - including models, animations, render settings, scene layout and lighting - gets stored together in this format. Later you open the .TSP in trueSpace to continue editing, rendering or exporting parts of the scene. Because it captures complete scene state, .TSP files are generally larger and more complex than object-only (.COB) or scene-only (.SCN) files from the same software.

Internally a .TSP file begins with an ASCII header signature "CaligariV00.01BLH.BitM" at offset zero, and contains many internal identifiers text-strings such as "OBJECTPROPERTIES", "UVCOORDPANEL", "BACKGROUNDGRADUATEDPANEL", "RADIOSITYPANEL", among others. These are part of named panels or configuration sections in the trueSpace UI and settings. These signatures help tools or file analyzers recognize it as a trueSpace project file.
