What are TEX files and how to open them

What is a TEX file?
TEX files have multiple uses, and LaTeX Document is one of them. Read more about the other uses further down the page.
LaTeX Document
Files that contain the .tex file extension are most commonly associated with the LaTeX typesetting software application.
The TEX files that are used by this software may contain symbols and text that are used to create mathematical expressions.
The TEX files that are used by the LaTeX program are frequently used for the typesetting of a variety of different math and science applications, such as physics textbooks and engineering books.
The .latex file extension may be used instead of the .tex file extension, but the .tex file suffix is more common than the .latex file suffix.
