What are SMIL files and how to open them

What is a SMIL file?
SMIL stands for Synchronized Multimedia Integration Language. Files that contain the .smil file extension are written in the XML language and they are very similar to HTML pages. There are four different versions of SMIL including SMIL 1.0, SMIL 2.0, SMIL 2.1 and SMIL 3.0.
The SMIL file format is used to develop slide shows and presentations. The slides contained in these files may include audio, video and text information as well as references to other streaming audio and video files.
The SMIL file format is used by a variety of Nokia phones such as the Nokia 3560 and 6600.
How to open SMIL files
Important: Different programs may use files with the SMIL file extension for different purposes, so unless you are sure which format your SMIL file is, you may need to try a few different programs.
