How to open SMD files
Did your computer fail to open a SMD file? We explain what SMD files are and recommend software that we know can open or convert your files.
What is a SMD file?
Files that contain the .smd file extension are most commonly associated with ROM image files that are used to store copies of a Sega Genesis video game.
An SMD file contains an exact copy of a game that was contained on a Sega Genesis game cartridge. This file then allows the game to be played on a computer, eliminating the need for a Sega Genesis console. However, the user must have the proper emulation software installed on his or her computer in order to play the SMD game.
The StarOffice software has also been known to use the .smd file suffix. These SMD files contain mail files that have been created with the StarOffice software.
