What are SK2 files and how to open them

What is a SK2 file?

A .SK2 file is a SK1 Vector Graphic file.

SK2 files are vector graphic documents used by the sK1 open-source illustration program (version 2.x). They store drawings in which shapes such as Bézier paths, rectangles, ellipses, text, and embedded raster images are arranged in pages, layers, or groups, with fills (solid, gradient, pattern), strokes, transparency (alpha channel), color spaces (RGB, CMYK, Grayscale), spot colors, and full color management. sK1 2.0 uses SK2 as its native document format for creating complex illustrations intended for design, print, and page layout workflows.

SK2 is generated and saved by sK1 2.0. Files in SK2 format can also be translated by the companion tool UniConvertor 2.0, which reads and converts SK2 documents to other vector and raster graphic formats, and likewise imports other formats into SK2. Because SK2 preserves document structure, including pages, layers, guidelines, transformations, and styles, converted graphics retain much of their design fidelity.

Technically, SK2 is a text-based XML format beginning with an ASCII-encoded XML header like <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" standalone="no"?> followed shortly by "<!-- sK1 2 ", and it includes internal section names such as PAGE_FORMAT, MASTERLAYERS, GUIDELAYER, LAYER_COUNTER, STROKE_TRAFO, WIDTH, HEIGHT, CMYK, METAINFO, STYLES, and RESOURCES.
