ProfiCAD Title Block

A ProfiCAD Title Block file is a template defining the layout and fields for the header section (called a title block) of technical drawings created with ProfiCAD. It is used to store predefined graphic elements (such as lines, rectangles, text and optional images like logos), placeholders for metadata (like drawing title, revision, author, date, etc.), and variable fields that automatically update when the drawing or its document summary is filled in. Typical content includes placeholders enclosed in braces (for example {TITLE}, {DATE}, {AUTHOR}), variable text labels (such as "SHEET", "REV.", "DOCUMENT TYPE", "VERSION"), and structured layout information to ensure the title block remains consistent across multiple drawings.

ProfiCAD (the main electrical CAD program that writes this format) provides built-in title block files (.ptb) located in its symbol library folder (specifically in the subfolder _TB). Users can open, edit or create their own title blocks via the "Open Title Block" or "New Title Block" commands. After editing and saving a .ptb file, it can be applied or reloaded in drawings; it supports page-specific settings and uses variables to avoid manual updates of repetitive fields.

Internally a .ptb file begins with an XML-style header including the tag documenttype="ProfiCAD ptb" version="…". It contains unique identifiers (GUIDs), predefined keywords like IMGDESC, LAYERS CURRENT, POLYLINE OP-LW, PRESERVEASPECT, and placeholders such as {DOCTYPE}, {DEP}, {ID}, etc.
