What is a PSW6 file?
A .PSW6 file is a Password Depot 6 Data file.
Password Depot 6 Data files store password databases used by Password Depot version 6, a password manager by AceBIT. These files hold passwords, login usernames, URLs, software licenses, notes, and related data all secured under a user's master password or a key file. Every item - credentials, notes, categories - is encrypted so only the authenticated user can decrypt and use the contents.
Password Depot 6 writes and reads .PSW6 files on Windows, Android, and iOS via its own application. When upgrading from earlier versions, .PSW6 files may be opened and/or imported by newer versions of Password Depot. Export functions are separate: data can be exported to unencrypted formats like CSV or XML, or to newer Password Depot database formats; exporting to encrypted forms preserves the encryption method (master password and/or key file) in use.
Files begin with a specific ASCII header at the very start: .PSWFile v.6 (bytes 0x0E 50 53 57 20 46 69 6C 65 20 76 2E 36 2E), which identifies the version and format.
